day of the dead

Tomorrow is the Day of the Dead in Mexico and much of latin america.
I thought it was kinda interesting. It has its roots back into Mayan and Aztec Indian religions. with a bit of catholicism thrown in here and there.
Here is a wikipedia article

Here are other articles and some pictures

I do post some stuff on religions other than Christianity at times.

Main Street Association

One idea would be to form a Main Street Association.
This group - which has to be made up of private citizens - can apply for grant money and make things happen in the downtown area.
Look at what Newkirk has done.

Anyone interested ?

New ideas

We have had a couple of ideas suggested.
A common denominator I see is that people want to fix up the appearance of the downtown.
This is something the city would like to do as well, but the costs are incredible.
Another problem is out of town landlords who don't want to spend anything on the buildings.

A citizens group could do a lot of good. I hope one will form.

Those old buildings downtown are a valuable resource. They are deteriorating though, and if action is not taken, they could be lost. That would be a major tragedy.

How could we go about doing something?

What could a committee do ?

thoughts anyone ?

What's the idea?

Here is the idea blog.
The "idea" is to discuss and develop ideas, and then to take action.

What do we want Arkansas City to be, and how do we get there?

I will get the ball rolling by posting an idea later today or tomorrow.

Feel free to post your own ideas.
You may post in the comment sections, or, you can send me your email address and I will fix it so you can post on here just like I do. Of course if you do that, you will not be anonymous anymore.

I do not want to moderate this blog. As long as it remains civil and mostly positive, I will not.

So what do you think?
